Therapist Support Programme

with Clyde Munro

Starting August 2024

Dental therapists are essential members of our dental teams, helping to ensure that patients receive high-quality care. You contribute significantly to the skill mix of the modern dental practice, making sure that patients are seen efficiently and by the right professional.

We understand the importance of the therapist’s role within practice, and so we have designed a dedicated educational programme to help you consolidate and expand your clinical capabilities in a range of relevant areas.

The Programme

The year-long programme builds on your existing skills, allowing you to confidently work within full scope of practice for the delivery of exceptional patient care. This programme offers comprehensive training, combining CPD hours and clinical support, designed to assist you during your first year in general practice.

The course is designed to give you first-hand experience across many treatment areas, such as:

  • Preventative treatment and advice, fluoride varnish application, fissure sealants and delivery of Childsmile (an initiative aiming to reduce oral health inequalities in children across Scotland)
  • Restorations on deciduous teeth, including stainless steel crowns and pulpotomies
  • Extractions of deciduous teeth
  • Direct restorations on permanent teeth in adults and children
  • Periodontal treatment, BPE and full pocket depth recording and monitoring
  • Taking of radiographs and creation of study models
  • Placement of dressings and recementing crowns with a temporary cement

Fiona Sloss

Dental Therapist at Oban Dental Care

This programme provides a level of support that is just not available elsewhere. To have the support of the dentists in your practice echoed by the group on a wider level means a lot. It also provides a great opportunity to meet other dental therapists and hygienists – we’re often the only dental therapist/hygienist in the practice so being able to connect with more professionals in our position is amazing. In addition, Clyde Munro’s Dental Therapist Programme covers useful clinical topics which enhance the skills of newly qualified professionals or offer a valuable refresher for those who have not had a chance to utilise their therapy skills for some time. It’s all about building competence and confidence.

Stuart Collier

Associate Dentist

Having a therapist within the dental team is highly valuable for both the patients and the dentists. The use of a therapist in practices allows for shorter waiting times for appointments and supports the dentist by providing routine treatments.

Clyde Munro utilise their dental therapists to undertake patient appointments and if needed they can refer the patient on to the appropriate dentist for further treatment via the internal referral system called i-Refer.
